And today I was told TC is good enough not to need snow tires...

thats like saying you dont need power brakes, or power steering. You could get by without them, but its a bad idea. (I'm saying this as I drive a RWD car with 3 season tires and no traction control because I am fixing my jeep.)

I'm not saying it's necessary but when you have quite a few inches of snow in the road like we had I'd much rather have snows.

thats kind of like saying that 100% of tiny slice of pizza is the same as the whole pie. Traction control could easily be called traction mitigation, it can only work with as much traction as your tires interface with the surface will allow. i.e. managing 100% of 10% traction isn't as good as not managing 50% traction.

oh, don't get me wrong, I totally agree. I love snow tires, I just didn't forsee having to drive my car in the snow. Thats the only reason I dont have them on it.

All seasons will do in a pinch, which most cars have on them. It also depends on the amount of snow you get. If you are running performance summer tires and they knew that then they were probably dropped on their head as a baby.

Based on this logic having airbags means you don't need to wear a safety belt.
